A new Volvo car dealership looks set to open soon in the local area after a pre-let deal was agreed for a plot on the former Rolls-Royce East Works site, which borders Gipsy Patch Lane and the A38 Gloucester Road North.

St Francis Group together with its development partner iSec have announced that they have exchanged contracts on the plot within the Horizon 38 business park, one of the region’s largest regeneration projects.

Work is due to start within weeks on the new 17,000 sq. ft flagship dealership for Volvo Cars UK, to be situated on one of the last remaining plots with frontage directly onto the A38.

Volvo will join other well-known names at Horizon 38, including Car Shop, Selco, Village Hotel and GKN Aerospace, alongside nearly 400,000 sq ft of speculative industrial warehouse development.

Gareth Williams of St Francis Group said:

“In these unprecedented times it is very pleasing so be able to make an announcement like this. Volvo and all other project stakeholders have shown a huge can-do attitude to ensure that this deal was done and we’ll be starting on site very shortly.”

“Speaking for the project itself and the Horizon-38 scheme in general, this deal represents another piece of the jigsaw on this hugely popular and successful 60-acre site which continues to deliver. We are looking to continue with this momentum through the last two remaining plots where commercial discussions are underway with interested parties.”

Horizon38 was acquired by a joint venture between St Francis Group and iSec late in 2015 and since then nearly 500,000 sq. ft of new high-quality warehouse space has been built in addition to a new Village Hotel and several trade counter units.

Recent developments at the Horizon 38 business park have seen an enormous Car Shop (car supermarket) unit open in November 2019 and the neighbouring GKN Aerospace Global Technology Centre handed over to its owner in July 2020.

New access road

The new Volvo dealership will be served via a new access road from the A38. Highways work to create the new junction and slip roads is currently under way on the A38.

It is at this junction that vehicles travelling on the Cribbs Patchway MetroBus Extension route between Bristol Parkway and The Mall will emerge from the Horizon 38 business park and cross straight over the A38 to enter the Filton Airfield development.
