Police car.

Avon and Somerset Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision between a pedestrian and a bus last night (Monday 4th February) on the Filton/Stoke Gifford border.

The incident happened at about 6:30pm on the westbound carriageway of Station Road (the A4174 Avon Ring Road), adjacent to the Abbey Wood Retail Park.

The pedestrian – a man believed to be in his late teens – was taken to Frenchay Hospital with serious head injuries. His condition is described as critical but stable.

The road was closed to allow a detailed examination of the scene. It was re-opened shortly before 11pm.

The police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to make contact.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101 or through the online crime/incident reporting page.

A report about the incident on the ITV News website shows a picture of a no. X18 First Group bus with a windscreen shattered on the nearside.

The X18 is a new “express” commuter service that was introduced in January to provide a link between the Kingswood and Emersons Green areas and major employment centres in Filton and at the Aztec West Business Park.

Police seek witnesses following Southmead Road bus incident

Posted on Thursday 17th May 2012 at 3:45 pm by SH (Editor)

Police car.

Collision investigators have issued an appeal for witnesses after an 88-year-old woman was injured in an incident involving a bus in Filton.

The woman was a passenger on a single decker bus – the number 18 service operated by First Bus – which was travelling along Southmead Road towards Golf Course Lane, possibly at 11:35am yesterday (Wednesday 16th May).

During its journey, a car driven by a woman is reported to have driven across the path of the bus into Gold Course Lane, forcing the bus driver to brake sharply.

The driver of the car – which has been described as a small dark coloured, rusty brown vehicle – stopped and shouted something at the bus driver before driving off.

Two people were on the bus at the time. The 88-year-old woman was thrown forward and hit her head on the back of the seat in front of her. She received hospital treatment, for a neck injury, when a broken neck was diagnosed.

Police are keen to speak to the other woman who was travelling on the bus.

They have also appealed to the driver of the car to contact them, so they can piece together what happened.

Anyone able to help the police investigation is asked to contact the force’s collision investigation unit on 101.

UPDATE (18th May): A message on the police website reports that the injured 88-year-old woman passed away today.
