The boss of the firm behind the planned arena complex on the former Filton Airfield site has admitted that the venue may now not open until 2026, representing a slippage of two years on the last announced date. However, improved design work has created the opportunity to increase the maximum capacity of the arena from 17,000 to 19,000, with over 2,000 “premium seats”.

Railway station serving Filton Airfield arena delayed by three years
A planned train station by the new arena in Filton will not open until 2026 after delays were blamed on several design changes. North Filton Station was initially due to open next year (2023), before the YTL Arena opens in 2024, as a key part of the transport plan to get people to concerts.

Network Rail and YTL Developments have released the first computer-generated images of the proposed new railway station at Brabazon, the mixed-use development being constructed on the site of the former Filton Airfield in north Bristol. Subject to approval, Network Rail is expected to begin construction in 2022.
