YTL has submitted final detailed plans for the proposed Bristol Arena – and they reveal the venue will feature an outdoor cinema, Christmas ice rink and sports courts. Artist’s impressions include huge public squares in front of the refurbished Brabazon hangars on the former Filton Airfield site. The projected opening date for the arena complex is late 2026 at the earliest.

North Filton Station gains fast-tracked approval from South Glos planners
South Gloucestershire Council has granted planning permission for the new North Filton Station, which will connect rail services to the new community, known as ‘Brabazon’, being developed on the former Filton Airfield site, as well as visitors to the new YTL Arena Bristol. It is hoped the station will be complete by 2026, allowing an hourly service to on the Henbury Link.

The boss of the firm behind the planned arena complex on the former Filton Airfield site has admitted that the venue may now not open until 2026, representing a slippage of two years on the last announced date. However, improved design work has created the opportunity to increase the maximum capacity of the arena from 17,000 to 19,000, with over 2,000 “premium seats”.

Network Rail and YTL Developments have released the first computer-generated images of the proposed new railway station at Brabazon, the mixed-use development being constructed on the site of the former Filton Airfield in north Bristol. Subject to approval, Network Rail is expected to begin construction in 2022.
