Filton Pool to host ‘GO TRI’ swim-run event

Swim-Run event organised by Sri Chinmoy Triathlon Club.

Multi-sport racing comes to Filton this week with an ‘aquathlon’ (swimming and running) event to be hosted at Filton Leisure Centre on Sunday 27th April.

The British Triathlon Federation and Filton Town Council are supporting the event, which is part of the new GO TRI initiative aimed at bringing multi-sport events to a new audience.

“Our event is aimed at people who may be keen runners or swimmers, but have never tried combining the two in a single race,”

says race organiser Garga Chamberlain of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team & Triathlon Club, an international organisation that will be staging a series of nine events in the Bristol area this year under the Self-Transcendence Races banner.

“GO TRI events are kept simple, affordable and beginner-friendly, so it’s a great chance to take on a multi-sport challenge for fun or fitness.”

Other local races in the series include 5 kilometre and 2 mile runs held in Eastville Park, duathlons (running and cycling) at Tockington, near Thornbury, and a Try-a-Tri (beginner’s triathlon) in Portishead.

The swim-run at Filton includes a 150m swim (6 lengths of the pool) and a 3km run on a scenic loop course around Elm Park. For more information on all the Self-Transcendence Races for 2014, including the Filton Swim-Run, visit uk.srichinmoyraces.org or call the organisers on 07702 410797.
